I don’t know what it is about Capitol Hill. Maybe it’s that a bunch of broke people working bizarre hours and living in close proximity is just too close to a frat house. Maybe it’s that once all the political geeks get together, they explode into joy at suddenly not being the biggest nerd in the room. Maybe it’s just the rush of power. But whatever it is, childish behavior is central to the place. As testament, I give you your government’s version of superlatives – except on capitol hill “most likely to succeed” is probably a touch more competitive than in high school.
I’m not going to lie. I love to hate people.
July 31, 2008I have been told many times that compassion is the most important thing in life. I totally agree. Really, I do. I did go to Quaker school, after all.
But if I sit down and list out all my sins of that, say, hour, hatred will comes up trumps.
Okay, that’s not true. But it is if I’ve spent the day reading New York Magazine’s look book (and, lets be honest, I spend a lot of days reading the Look Book.) But as much as you can’t turn a corner on that site without finding someone worthy of your disdain, I think these two take the cake.
Read, and indulge in a little sin – they’re too rich to care, anyway.
Your Thursday Recurring Feature
July 31, 2008When we tried to come up with recurring features for this here blog we hit a wall. Hump day obviously needed to be aided by truly terribly pop to get you through that long, long Wednesday afternoon. For us to give our conceited and unneeded advice about what you should be doing on Mondays made sense. Kaks needed someone to show all the crap on e-bay she’d buy if she had, you know, employment – so there went Tuesdays. And we couldn’t leave you off on the weekend without hours of good listening, so podcasts slipped into the Friday spot.
But what about Thursdays? What on earth would we do on Thursdays? What was a subject so vast that we could never tire, for all our lives, of talking about it at least once a week? What subject was so absorbing that spending my Wednesdays finding the very best facet of it would not be a chore but a joy? What the hell were we going to do with Thursday?
Frankly, the only disappointing thing is that it took me more than ten minutes to hit on it.
Gorillaz simply rock
July 31, 2008The BBC’s new promotion for their coverage of the Olympic Games in Beijing is by the Gorillaz. Awesome.
This is where it gets embarrassing as I have to link to the Kanye West blog since I can’t embed the video here from BBC iPlayer and be sure it will work. Oh well.
What it feels like for a girl
July 31, 2008The girls over at Jezebel are pretty fabulous. I might be a bit in love with all of them. But at the moment I am especially in love with Tracie (aka “Slut Machine”) for dolling up her friend Gavin and then making him walk around NYC in high heels. The best part may be Gavin’s Popeye-like arm swings to keep himself upright while trying to navigate the sidewalk in 4 inch heels. Take a look here. There’s a part 2 as well that you shouldn’t miss. I’d also suggest clicking the links for “Making it with Makeup” to watch Tracie make Gavin up with both day and night looks. Gavin takes the feeling of eyeliner on his inner lids like a man…kind of.
