I just came back from a weekend in the mountains, cavorting in a town full of the happily wealthy. In fact, it was this town:
We were there to see the Dalai Lama give an amazing speech. After taking off his shoes, laughing delightedly in gratitude for a scarf local children had given him and setting in to talk, His Holiness asked us to “just today, just inside this tent, forget our differences.”
All I could think, with the brilliance that is this video in mind, was – what differences? A friend who was volunteering with us later told me that not one, but two people pointed out to him that he was a black man in Aspen – something they seemed almost as excited about as they were about the Dalai Lama.
